Trump calls timber wall a ‘tough thing’ for China
Trump has called on China to pay for a US-Mexico border wall, and suggested that Mexico will pay for the wall as well.
In a new interview with The New York Times published Monday, the Republican presidential candidate said Mexico would “pay for it.”
In an interview with the newspaper, Trump said Mexico will “pay” for the border wall if the US is forced to pay more for its own border security efforts.
“We have to be able to defend ourselves,” Trump said.
“If we cannot defend ourselves, then we have to pay, and Mexico is going to pay.
Mexico will not be a third-world country.”
Trump, who has vowed to build the border Wall in the event he is elected president, has been critical of Mexico, which he has called “the greatest enemy of our country.”
“The reason they don’t pay for their own wall is because we don’t have a wall.
They have no wall.
That’s their problem,” Trump told The New Yorker magazine in 2017.
Mexico has been a major beneficiary of Trump’s “America First” rhetoric.
In February, it was reported that Mexico had agreed to pay $3.5 billion to help fund a border wall that Trump promised would be built.
